In the past decade, Joy has been an achingly rare experience for me from so much grief, depression, distrust in others and isolation. This piece started in mid 2019, and was completed at the end of 2020. It was carried with me through various challenging obstacles which reinforced instability, housing insecurities, food insecurities, and financial desparity. In this time, there were glimpses of joy I experienced in an ocean of darkeness from circumstantial, constant depression, and anxiety. This painting is an extraction of a long period of so little joy swimming in an ocean of grief.
